The last week of the season was a great one! The weather was nice all week which allowed us to get out on the water everyday. Everyone was excited for regionals and practiced a variety of drills, race starts, and both short and long pieces throughout the week. On Thursday we had a ‘college swag day’ where our seniors wore shirts from the colleges they’ll be attending in the fall. Then, on Friday, rowers wore blue and gold to school and practice as spirit before the big regatta in Worcester.
This weekend our team competed in the New England Regional Championships in Worcester, MA. The weather was overcast but warm, with a few rain showers and only slight wind. Our novice boys raced in an 8+, finishing their qualifier in fifth place. The novice boys’ 4+ finished in seventh place. The novice girls enjoyed a hugely successful weekend of racing. Their first 8+ finished in fourth in their qualifier, earning a spot in the semi final. From there they went on to finish third in the semifinal and come in sixth place overall. The novice 4+ finished their qualifier in second place and their semifinal in fifth. The second novice 8+ finished in seventh place in their final. The varsity girls 4+ finished a tight qualifying race in fourth place, and the varsity 8+ finished in 5th place in their qualifier. The varsity boys’ 4+ finished in fourth place in their qualifier and the varsity boys’ 8+ finished in fourth place in their qualifier, earning a spot in the semifinal, where they placed 6th. For our seniors, this regatta was their last chance to race in blue and gold, and it was good to end on a high note! Our last regatta of the spring session was a successful one for the whole team!
