This program is for any middle school student in grades 7 or 8 who is interested in learning how to row in sculling shells. a sculling boat is a boat with 2 oars. A sweep rowing shell is when each rower has one oar. We believe that younger bodies benefit from learning how to row with two oars in smaller boats. It teaches a more skilled approach to the sport of rowing before jumping into a sweep rowing shell with only one oar. Middle School rowers practice at the same time of day as the high school crews but for only 3 days/week as opposed to 5. Some competitive opportunities may or may not be available depending on the participants and the coaches discretion.
